THE SECRET HAPPINESS IS LOVE
Vivian Hsu

Vivian Hsu has gathered a nice little reputation on the internet due to her rather tasty nude photoshoot. Not content with appearing in films, Vivian has had time to make an album (which came out in 2000), but has taken a three year absence. Now she is back again with a new album, so that you can enjoy her vocal cords. Whether you like her singing is one thing, as her music is an acquired taste.

I THINK, I SING
Gigi Leung

Gigi Leung brings out her new Cantonese album which includes the theme song to her latest film Turn Left Turn Right. There are also a couple of songs dedicated to the children who lost their parents to SARS. Gigi has come a long way from her very beginnings as an artist so be sure to check out this new album.

CUSTOM MADE
Hacken Lee

Hacken Lee has been a singer for over a decade now, but has been in the shadows during the Heaven King years of the 1990s. Although a very good singer in his own right, he just cannot seem to break into the top until 2002 when he finally won the Most Popular Male Artist award. His recent concerts (with Alan Tam) attest to this amazing achievement and popularity with the people.

This 4CD set compiles all of his best hits over the years, including duets and newer songs, with one performing with renowned pianist Lang Lang.

If you're a fan of Hacken Lee, don't miss this collector's edition.

IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT
Aaron Kwok

The newest Canto album from one of the four heaven kings. Aaron has spent most of his recent time on tour and making films, so a new album is a welcome, but on listening to some of the tracks, this new album is just as tame as his previous recent songs. A new direction is needed.

EVOLUTION
Twins

The Twins are the pinnacle of teen pop duos with their amazing ability to appear absolutely everywhere and be loved by young and old alike. Never mind their music can be a tad mediocre at times, they can do no wrong in the eyes of their fans, and in a bid to move with the times, they have released this new album called Evolution.

The title reflects upon the move the Twins have made to their music, improving upon their bland saccharine tunes to more mature fare. Whether they are able to grow up themselves and still please their younger fans remains to be seen.

TOTALLY SAMMI (Special Edition)
Sammi Cheng

Totally Sammi is yet again another compilation album (as if there aren't enough) for fans of Sammi. There are 36 hits of Sammi's old and new songs as well as music videos and some interviews. Hardcore fans will get this for their collection, and people who don't have Sammi albums, may check this out just for one whole package that covers all the best that is Sammi.

IF ONE DAY....
Andy Lau

Andy Lau (now past 40) is pretty much the only Heaven King still releasing albums. So, fans of Andy will be delighted that this new album by Mr Lau is as good as it gets, and as Lau continues to spend his time on other activities, his singing career may go the same way as his other three royal contemporaries. This special album comes with a picture frame with an additional 10 photo CD covers.

LOVE SAMMI
Sammi Cheng

Sammi has been out of the music scene for a while now (some say she was ill), and to welcome her back, she has released a 2-CD all times best album that comprises 36 of her greatest hits plus some new ones.

JACKY CHEUNG 2002-2003 MUSIC ODYSSEY GRAND FINALE
Jacky Cheung

Fans of Jacky can relive his Music Odyssey concert with this new 3-CD album that comprises 38 songs, which includes English, Mandarin and Cantonese hits. What are you waiting for?

REBORN
Nicholas Tse

Since his acquittal from the charges brought to him by the Hong Kong high court, Nic Tse has been in hiding, most likely spending quality time in perfecting his new album called Reborn. As the title suggests, Nic reckons he has been reborn from the experience and he will not be as rebellious.

MAGIC
Jolin Tsai

You may not have heard of her, but Jolin has been the darling of Taiwanese pop for the past year. People just seem to love her, and now she is hitting Hong Kong with force, teaming up with local singers to promote her new album Magic.

This special edition comes complete with a DVD which has 11 music videos and "Jolin's Complete Graduation Record" (whatever that is) to thank her fans. Her rise to fame is credited to a group of high-ranking Taiwanese producers who saw her potential and groomed her to the top. Her looks, figure, and voice are all star material, and if you don't believe them, give her songs a listen to and see what you think. At least she can't be as bad as the new Cantopop singers such as Yumiko.

TOUCH OF LOVE (2nd Version)
Twins

This album should not be confused with their earlier album which is also called Touch of Love. This is a second version which offers new songs and new goodies. Why they didn't bother to change the title defies belief. Anyway, you get the theme songs from The Twins Effect and Diva, Ah Hey!, and also a poster, photo book, post cards featuring a totally naked Charlene and Gillian. Oh, you wish.

MY PRIDE
Joey Yung

Ms Yung was selected to sing the theme tune "My Pride" to a commercial after she was voted the best out of the current crop of Canto-pop queens. She is, however, one of the best talents around, and her songs have always been catchy and good to listen.

MAN AND WOMAN
Angelica Lee

New album from new talent Angelica Lee.

VALEN'S BEST MOVIE THEME SONGS
Valen Hsu

Valen finally releases her long awaited new album which features classic movie theme songs by Qiong Yao. Those who doesn't know who Yao is (and that includes me) will not appreciate this album, so I'll just leave it to dedicated fans then.

Every one knows that Alan Tam ruled the pop industy during his 80s, but this is the new millennium, can he still cut it against all these upstarts? This album is Tam's newest since his last release two years ago. He promises that this is his best since those golden years, but everyone knows that nothing he does now could match those classics.

THE BEST OF SANDY LAM 2003
Sandy Lam

Sandy Lam was one of the biggest female HK pop artists during the 90s until she decided to semi-retire from the industry. This is a compilation album that covers most of her best songs during those golden years and a couple of new tracks as well. A chance for the record company to cash in some money. This compilation album (just released before Xmas) is a double-CD package which includes a bonus AVCD. There are four new songs, four music videos as well as a serving of 18 of Eason's past hits. Considering that he's only been in the music industry for only a few years, that is a big achievement.

MUSIC BOX
Miriam Yeung

Just finished her recent concert in Hong Kong, Miriam releases a new Cantonese album whi

HOMEWORK
Leon Lai

The newest Cantonese album from mega-popstar Leon. The album includes the songs from his movie "Three" and other hits penned by best mate Mark Lui. Also includes four music videos.

TWINS ICHIBAN 2002 CONCERT
Twins

The Twins concert in all its heavenly glory, here on DVD and CD. Fans of Twins should lap it up, and non-fans may take a look at what makes the Twins so successful. Their enthusiasm and sense of fun are exemplified in its fullness in this concert which includes many playful jabs at oldie songs and Chinese culture. Many of their peers are ready to support them by making appearances, including Eason Chan, Nicholas Tse etc. Maybe one for teenagers, but the cuteness of the Twins shouldn't put you off. Then again, the music might.

WHERE IS HE
Jacky Cheung

Jacky's long-awaited album finally arrives. Here there are some Mandarin and Cantonese tunes ready to be consumed by your ears, including three duets with Coco Lee, Anita Mui and Sandy Lam. July Rhapsody's theme song is also here.

THAT'S MINE
Jordan Chan

A new album by Jordan Chan. Although I can't stand his songs, and his singing, he nevertheless has found a fanbase. Here are ten new Mandarin and two new Cantonese songs, and two music vids.

LEAVE

The gorgeous Yanzi Sun brings out her new album, which includes a host of different music genres, such as rock, pop and R&B.

LOVE APPEARED (HONG KONG VERSION)
Kelly Chan

Kelly's new Mandarin album has ten new songs as well as a bonus Cantonese track. I told you she was prolific.

LEON LIVE IS LIVE CONCERT 2001
Leon Lai

Experience Leon's recent concert in this new DVD. Fans of Leon will surely lap this up, but I always thought Leon's concerts aren't really that great. Unless you're a fan, I'd say give this a miss.

SAMMI MOVIE THEME SONGS COLLECTION
Sammi Cheng

Fans of Sammi would already have all these songs, but those of you who love her movies and would like to have the theme songs then this is definitely the album for you. There are seventeen songs from her most recent movies, including Marry a Rich Man, Love on a Diet, Needing You, Summer Holiday, Wu Yen etc.

GO EAST THE TOUR OF MOVIE SONGS

Talking about movie theme songs, here's another compilation for you. Featuring seventeen songs of big movie hits including My Mate is a barbarian, My Sassy Girl, Dummy Mummy amongst others. If you like collecting soundtracks, then this should be on your list.

HACKEN LEE FROM BEGINNING
Hacken Lee

This is one huge compilation album. If you like Hacken Lee, then this is heaven on earth. There are 9 CDs featuring a total of 101 (count em) songs throughout Hacken's singing career. He's a great singer and has loads of fans, but unfortunately I'm not one of them.

Price? HK$430 (US$55, UK£39)

TRIBUTE TO ANITA MUI
Various Artists

As Anita Mui celebrates 20 years in the music biz, eleven young stars have joined together to make this tribute album, performing eleven of Mui's greatest hits. Singers include Rain Li, Alex Fong, Miriam Yeung and Kit Chan.

MVSM PART 1
Miriam Yeung

Talk about packaging rip-off. Miriam's new album is split into two parts, with the second one coming out later. Part one has eight songs, and the slick packaging will allow you to join it with part two to create a special package. But the sick thing is that they are still charging full price for it, so you pay double to get the full album. Cheeky gits.

WHO CAN I LOVE?
Andy Hui Chi On

Andy has always been in the shadow of the four biggies of Cantopop for the past decade. Quite a popular singer himself, Andy has finally won the accord he so desired - the Most Popular Male Singer award. Now finally in the same league as the four kings, he can look forward to a rosy future. Who Can I Love? is his new Mandarin album of the 2002.

SPECIAL THANKS TO...(HK SPECIAL EDITION)
Eason Chan Yik Shun

Although not as good looking as most of the other male singers, Eason isn't a bad singer in his own right. This new Mandarin album is a special edition containing 14 new songs.

WITH (DELUXE VERSION)
Anita Mui Yim Fong

Anita Mui has been the definitive Hong Kong female pop icon of the 80s. She started her career as a child star, and progressed to dominate the music scene for more than a decade. The last few years have been less prolific but she has found time to record a new album to commemorate her 20th anniversary in the music biz. The album features duets with eleven of her closest pop friends, including Leslie Cheung, Jacky Cheung, Sammi Cheng, and Faye Wong to name a few. This is a must-have album for Cantopop fans.

KELLY GAME - LITTLE KELLY
Kelly Chan

Besides Faye Wong, Kelly is the most popular of female pop icons in Hong Kong. Certainly no less prolific than Sammi Cheng, Kelly has produced a wide range of albums over the last few months. Her newest album is made for her youngest fans - the pre-teens, and as the picture attests, the album features renditions of famous anime theme songs. Although very unconventional, fans of Kelly should pick this up for a different perspective of their idol.

WILLIAM'S LOVE SONG
William So Wing Hong

William's forte is singing ballads, and it's no surprise that most of his major hits were also theme tunes to popular TV drama serials. His new album features the theme songs of his new TV drama serial, and fans of William shouldn't miss this, as we all know that despite his far from ideal looks, he is a damn good singer nonetheless.

4 U
Elva Hsiao

Elva has gone from strength to strength, and her latest album features many new songs including one composed by Elva herself. Although not yet rated in the top female popstar category, she has nonetheless closed the distance. The album also includes a photo album (a pity it's not anything sexual) and a music video.

HONG KONG PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA - ALAN LIVE 2002
Alan Tam

Just as Anita Mui was the female pop icon of the 80s, Alan Tam was the definitive male pop star of the same era. Now semi-retired, he has nonetheless continued to work in the music scene, and this collaboration with the HK Philharmonic Orchestra shows just what a great singer he still is. This twin-CD features all the songs sung at the concert, with Alan Tam belting out most of his greatest hits.

LETTING GO
Sammi Cheng

The extremely prolific Sammi brings us another album, this time a Mandarin one. Fans of Sammi would lap it up, but neutrals would be advised for a listening first. Ten new songs, and millions of dollars worth of sales.

DREAMS COME TRUE
Vivian Lai Shui Yan

Vivian Lai was one of the more popular female singers during the early 90s. With her sweet voice and cute looks, she looked destined to make it big. But during the mid-90s, Vivian decided to retire from the business because at the time, she was dating a son of a wealthy family, and the family did not warm to Vivian. Now a few years later, with the relationship going nowhere, Vivian has made a bold decision to return to the music scene. Older and wiser, she tries to capture the same group of fans she previously had, and hopefully garner new ones in the process. Although she will definitely have competition from the rise of younger female pop stars, Vivian has the voice and expertise to make a name for herself.

FINAL ANSWER
Ken Chan Kai Tai

Before Ken Chan hosted the Hong Kong version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?", he was certainly a non-entity. Someone who was seen on regular television but one that would be coined average. Now after the huge success of the game show, Ken has been thrust into the limelight with a reputation as a talented performer. With a degree in economics, fluency in English, and a great sense of humour, he has impressed a wide range of people. And some of those people has seen fit to make Ken into a pop star, hence this new EP album by Mr Chan. Seriously, some critics have noted Ken's amazing singing ability, going on to compare it with Jacky Cheung - the greatest HK singer of our generation. Whether Mr Chan will succeed as a pop star remains to be seen. But I think his formal, staid appearance will not win him too many fans from the teen generation.

HACKEN LEE LIVE IN CONCERT 2002
Hacken Lee

One of the better singers in the HK pop industry, Hacken has unfortunately been eclipsed by younger and better looking male artists (yet not as talented) in a business that packaging and looks sell more albums than real talent. True music fans are never wrong, and they hold Hacken Lee in high regard - just look at the sell-out concerts. This album captures the mood and excitement of Lee's concerts in a double whammy CD.

HOCC2
Denise Ho

Newcomer Denise Ho has finally released an EP album. There are seven songs including the number one song "Angel Blue". Like a DVD easter egg, there are two hidden tracks in the album.

GREATEST HITS OF KAREN MOK
Karen Mok

Another greatest hits album? Stone the crows, this is the second one in just as many months. For Karen fans, I am sure this is a fruitful buy. There are 16 tracks of her greatest hits, including the Karaoke versions of them on a separate VCD. Also included is a 20 odd page photo album. I'd say check it out before you buy first.

VIVIAN BEST HITS 47
Vivian Lai Shui Yan

Because of Vivian's re-emergence into the pop industry, her record company has decided to release a special edition album that covers a host of Vivian's old songs, and some new ones. Housed in three CDs, there are 47 songs to listen to here. Fans of Vivian will be over the moon, while neutrals will have the chance to listen to her older material.

ANGEL OF MERCY
Nicola Cheung

Miss Cheung is fast becoming one of the most favourite female celebrities in Hong Kong after appearing in a few very popular television drama serials. Although her singing career hasn't taken off in a way she had wanted to, she is still quite popular with the critics. Even Bee Gees' Maurice Gibb found time to compose a song named "Angel of Mercy" for Nicola. She also wrote two other songs in this album.

THE MOST FAVOURITE FAYE
Faye Wong

The queen of Canto/Mando pop brings out this impressive compilation album which includes 16 of her best Mando hits and 8 of her best Canto hits. Those of you not familiar with Faye's singing would be advised to check out this album as it covers the very best of Faye's pop career.

BOYS ON FILM (Special Edition)
Shine

Shine is Hong Kong's newest boy group sensation that is taking the SAR by storm. Seen as the male version of Twins, they have attracted a huge fanbase of delirious girl fans just like the Twins had attracted a massive group of lustful boys. Boys on Film is Shine's new EP album and features nine tracks. I've heard them, and they are nothing to write home about. However, their good looks will ensure countless of sales. Good grief.

ME
Nicholas Tse

Fans of Nic will be glad to hear that his new Canto album will be soon available in the shops. Twelve new songs is included, as well as a bonus VCD and photos of Nic himself. Don't miss out on this new album by Hong Kong's biggest young star.

GRACE (Chinese edition)
Kelly Chan

G FOR GIRL LIVE 2001
Gigi Leung

Fans of Gigi will snap up this double CD of her recent concert. But others should take a look, because it's pretty good.

START SELECTION
Sun Yen tzu

Um, basically, a compilation of her past works. There's 12 songs here for your listening entertainment.

JACKY CHEUNG GREATEST HITS
Jacky Cheung

Simply a compilation of his greatest hits, featuring 13 hits. Also includes his latest new single. But is it worth getting if you're already a Jacky fan? Not if you've already got all his albums, it ain't.

TWINS
Twins

The Twins' popularity goes from strength to strength, thanks largely to their pretty faces and cute bods. Their new album is here for all to enjoy, which has five songs, and also includes a bonus VCD of a song recorded for the Chinese New Year.

ASK KELLY
Kelly Chan

The brand new Canto album from Miss Chan. Well, anything by Kelly is worth listening to, as she is one of teh better female artists in Hong Kong, who can actually sing.

HIT THEME SONGS OF TV DRAMA
Jacky Cheung

If you enjoy listening to the theme songs of popular TV drama series, then this is right up your street. Jacky sings 15 of the most popular TV theme songs from both TVB and ATV in this compilation album. Get it now.

TRANSPARENT
Gigi Leung

Gigi is releasing her latest Mando album. It has ten songs, and well, you know the rest.

TENDER
Sammi Cheng

Tender is Sammi's latest Cantonese album, which has the usual ten brand new songs. A bonus music video VCD is also included. And as with all things Sammi, you can see that from the cover, she has tried delving into the mystic and gothic dress fashion. What will she come up with next?

SAMMI SHOCKING COLORS LIVE 2001 CONCERT
Sammi Cheng

Raise your hands if you attended Sammi's 2001 "Shocking Colors" concert? What? Only me? Oh well, this twin-CD set comprises 29 songs that Sammi sang at her concert, and as a bonus, it also includes a set of six 2002 calendar cards.

THE EASY RIDE 2001 CONCERT
Eason Chan

21 songs from Eason's recent concert. To be honest, Eason's not a bad singer, and some of his songs are quite catchy and upbeat. Much, much better than his namesake, Edison Chan.

I SANG THE BOYS' SONGS
Cass Phang

This new album is a prelude to her upcoming concert, and comprises 12 of her own fave songs. For those of you who have already got her previous albums and thinking why should you buy this, some of her songs have been remixed, using the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Beijing Cinema Music and Arts Orchestra.

BIG MUSIC BAND
Hacken Lee

Lee was touted to be one of the big boys of the canto-pop scene, but frankly lost out to the "big four", and his squeaky-clean image didn't really help his career as well, although he remains one of HK's better singers. This latest album has four new songs as well as a number of his greatest hits.

BAD TASTE
Anthony Wong

Well, well, well. It is true that all actors would like to dabble in music, and it is a surprise to see Hong Kong veteran actor Anthony Wong doing the same. Whether he can really sing or not (I don't know), at least some music producer thinks so, or maybe he's just got bad taste.
