MIGHTY BABY (2002)

After the huge success of La Brassiere, you'd think there would be a sequel in the works, and you'd be right. Mighty Baby is the sequel, but this time the focus is not on bras but on babies.

Johnny (Lau Ching Wan) and Samantha (Carina Lau) have now split up, but after his success in designing the greatest bra on earth, he now has the burden of designing a product called Mighty Baby - for babies.

Johnny recruits Wayne (Louis Koo) and they both work under Lena (Gigi Leung), who is Wayne's girlfriend. At first, they find it difficult to get to grips with the idea of babies, so an expert is flown in from Japan to help them. Boey (Cecilia Cheung) is the expert, but while Wayne finds her innate ability to get on well with babies such a turn-off, he soon warms to her, much to the dislike of Lena.

Meanwhile, Johnny falls in love with his newly recruited neurotic secretary Sabrina (Rosamund Kwan), yet he still could not forget his old flame Samantha. This whole relationship problem confuses the hell out of both the males, as well as boring the hell out of the audience.

Where La Brassiere was quite innovative and provacative at the same while, Mighty Baby fails to bring us any of those qualities, and we are sorely left with an inferior product than the original. Since the relationships of the previous film are carried over to the sequel, most of the focus is on the males juggling their sex-lives with new companions. The designing of the baby product is basically put on the back seat, while most of the film is an understanding of who fancies who.

Mighty Baby is a huge disappointment because there is none of the sexiness that was blatantly littered throughout the original, and although a film about babies may warm to the hearts of the female audience, it will no doubt bore many of the male population, who would no doubt like to see more of the titullation provided in the first film. Breasts or babies? I know what I'd choose.

Overall, Mighty Baby isn't a bad effort, but compared to the first, it is the difference between changing the diapers and sucking on a teat.
